As 2023 began to come to a close, I wanted to write a novel for my aunt for Nanowrimo. Nanowrimo is the National Writing Month of November. The goal of the month is to write 50k words in a month, which feels like quite a lot, but becomes very reasonable when added to daily, without a fear for mistakes. With a busy month, I was unable to get to novel status with 50k, but I was able to get somewhere between 12-15k, making it a short story, and still one I am proud of.

When creating, I think it's important to first create without a fear of mistakes. We are our worst critics and sometimes putting it on paper is the best thing, then edit and put it into reality. As we put it into reality, we can and should listen to critique, whether it is from ourselves or from people who we respect.

Here is a bit about the story, "Barbara, the Dinosaur, and the Water Horse:"

Who was Barbara Madison and what was she made for?

The paleontologist jumps into a world of myth and legend, followed by a past to grieve over. Looking too much like a certain doll with a very similar name, she learns that she herself is also capable of anything – the good and the bad.

In the author’s childhood, dolls under a certain name were never just keeping house or finding the prince; they were also saving their sisters, taking care of their pet dinosaur, having successful careers, and defeating the evil plans of a mysterious horse. Barbara, The Dinosaur, and the Water Horse” is a story with a modern reflection to this past, the first science fiction author Mary Shelley, and a reanalysis of where the author’s storytelling started; with her toys and her aunt – within her great-grandmother’s rose room.

Here is a link to the story (some more reviews would be very well appreciated!):

I would like to thank Paris Cordova, Matthew Daning, and Natalie Glaser in this endeavor, as I wouldn't have been able to do it without them as editors.

As I continue building my creative worlds, I've also just finished my long-awaited novel, 'The Children of Petra,' that currently sits around 84k words. I am currently looking to see if I am able to publish it through a publishing house rather than independently, but only time will tell!

Here is a synopsis of "The Children of Petra:"

Petra was a dead, desolate orbit; at least that is what mortals would say as they reached towards a new galaxy, hoping for sanctuary. As battles rage on for resources that were once plentiful, two lovers, reminiscent of the sun and the moon, fall in and out of love, scraping for something that was once near and beautiful. Meanwhile, Oracles predict the rise and fall of the future, and a young leader tries to revive a greenhouse that still remains on the orbit of Petra.

There are new universes to discover, new orbits to hope for, but at the end of an evening, is it worth more than a place to call home? Or rather, is it worth more than a place ancestors once called home?

This is just the tip of the iceberg! More stories to come!
